The Secret Sharer: the essay In the long short story The Secret Sharer by Joseph Conrad the narrator plays the captain of a merchant ship that is foreign to him. He is assigned to this foreign ship on a very short notice. He is expected to lead the crew to their destination, safely. This captain is lonely he has not one soul to speck to. He doesn’t know these people who he somehow is suppose to lead. His first night on the ship he finds his soon to be best friend, Leggatt. He finds his new best friend mysteriously floating in the water as if he was dead. He speaks to him for the night and finds that they have fallen asleep in his room. The captain doesn’t even realize he had been sleeping. The narrator listens to the man explain why he had been floating in the water and then realize that him and the man have plenty in common, both mentally and physically. The narrator feels connected to the man. Leggatt is being hunted for. He is being hunted for murder and also for going against the order of the c aptain of the Sephora, which is the ship, he was also assigned to. The stowaway is so much like the captain. For the captain Leggatt represents a goal that the captain has set out to accomplish. He knows this man is a good man as well as he is a good man. My first academic goal is for me to get better grades in my classes. For me to feel like I have accomplished that I would first need to get at least a B in each class. I also feel like this goal is essential to becoming the great student I know I can be. To achieve higher grades I think that all I need is to work a little harder and study while being organized. My second academic goal is for me to try and not procrastinate with my work. I want to do all my work at least 4 days in advance to give myself time to go over everything and not be stressed out.Me wanting to get all my work done is important to not procrastinate but I feel like I could probably be a little lax with the time limit I have given myself. For me to not procrastinate I should take advantage of all the extra time I have throughout the day to get any work done. My only career goal is for me to finish medical transcription school. Mat school is fairly easy since it's self-paced but I also want to be able to work from home soon to be able to help support my family.While me finishing isn't essential to my life, it is very important to me. This goal will be achieved once I figure out how to balance CUT and MAT school. I'm not really one to need family or friend support to get anything done. While it would be nice to have, it could also get kind of annoying with my family becoming too preoccupied with constantly asking about my work. I would prefer to Just stay on top of myself and get things done.

Throughout our Women and Religion Course, we have analyzed how women’s lives have been shaped by religious affiliation, or lack thereof. Religious obligations and ideals have historically placed women in a patriarchal box that has required the submission or obedience of women in order to be a true follower. This ideology has created a movement within different religions for a more progressive understanding of the modern woman and her ability to increase participation and visibility for similar women; who may be experiencing the same plight. American states developed their initial stance on abortion through Br itish law, which allowed the legality of abortion so long as it was performed before â€Å"quickening†, also referenced as the first movements of the fetus. The first detectable movements of the fetus occur primarily between 13-25 weeks of pregnancy meaning that abortion was legal up until the end of the second trimester. Although early abortion practices were still dangerous and unregulated, they were openly advertised in the U.S. until 1821. Connecticut became the first state to criminalize abortion. This would eventually lead to the subsequent criminalization of abortion in all 50 states by 1965, with very few exceptions. Connecticut began its descent into illegal abortion legislation by outlawing the sale of an abortion-inducing liquid.
